    IRS received your federal income tax return, but they need more information to verify your identity in order to process your tax return accurately.

    The IRS needs more information to verify your identity in order to process your tax return accurately. Unfortunately, if the IRS can’t verify your identity online or by phone. You must visit a Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC). The contact information below is only for taxpayers who received Letter 5747C.

    What you must do
    1. Call our Taxpayer Assistance Center toll-free line at 844-545-5640 within 30 days from the date of the letter to schedule an appointment to visit your local TAC. You must bring the information and identity documents listed on your letter to your appointment.
    2. If you did not file a tax return, please call the toll-free IRS Identity Verification telephone number at 800-830-5084 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., local time, to tell us you did not file a tax return.

    This contact information is only for taxpayers who received Letter 5747C. The letter applies to identity verification only. No other tax-related information, including refund status, is available.
