October 16, 2023, is the Tax Filing Extension Deadline!

Attention, taxpayers! We want to remind you that the tax filing extension deadline for the year 2023 is fast approaching. If you haven’t filed your taxes yet, mark your calendars and take note: Monday, October 16, 2023, is the final day to submit your tax returns if you filed for an extension earlier this year.

Special Extensions for Disaster-Area Taxpayers:

  • Taxpayers in specific disaster-affected areas have different deadlines:
    • California, Alabama, and Georgia: October 16, 2023
    • Illinois and Alaska (flood affected): October 31, 2023
    • Vermont (flood affected): November 15, 2023
    • Maui, Hawaii, Florida, South Carolina, and Georgia (various disasters): February 24, 2024

Additional Extensions for Certain Groups:

  • Military personnel and individuals returning from combat zones have 180 days after leaving the combat zone to file returns and pay taxes.

Electronic Filing and Payment Options:

  • File anytime and schedule federal tax payments up to the October 16 due date using various methods:
    • IRS Direct Pay: Pay online directly from your checking or savings account for free and schedule payments up to 365 days in advance.
    • Credit/Debit Card Payments: Pay with a credit card, debit card, or digital wallet option (fee applies).
    • IRS2Go Mobile App: Access mobile-friendly payment options, including Direct Pay and debit/credit card payments.
    • Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS): Make safe and easy payments online or by phone using EFTPS (must be scheduled by 8 p.m. ET at least one calendar day before the tax due date).
