Yes. You have several options regarding a lost refund check:
- Go to the “Where’s My Refund?” system available through the IRS website and request lost refund assistance.
- Call the IRS toll-free at 800-829-1954 and either use the automated system or speak with an agent.
If you’re married filing jointly, you can’t use the automated systems. The IRS will issue you a Form 3911: Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund. This will get the lost check replacement process started.
Once the IRS processes your claim, you’ll receive a replacement check after the original check is canceled.
If your refund check has already been cashed, the Bureau of Fiscal Services (BFS) will give you a claim package that includes a copy of the cashed check. BFS will review your claim and the signature on the canceled refund check to determine whether to issue a replacement check. The BFS review can take up to six weeks to complete.
